Our mission is to provide awareness, support, and a sense of community to the large population of current and potential vegans, vegetarians, and plant-based eaters in Connecticut through inspired media, education and events. Vegan CT believes that inclusiveness and non-judgement is the key to creating a compassionate society – we welcome the highly-carnivorous, omni, and veg-curious to join, participate and learn!
ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Rachel Gary began Vegan CT as a way to stop driving her friends insane with constant random rants, musings, and article posts about animal rights, amazing vegan recipes, and the like. Rachel went out in search of a veg community in CT to join and found none, realizing that other vegans, vegetarians and veg-curious CT residents might also be looking for such a space to discover delicious vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants around the state, chat about recipes, find awesome events, and discuss non-dairy cheese. So, she started one.
Rachel is a passionate advocate for a compassionate, healthy, and low-impact lifestyle. She is educated in global health and nutrition, and has throughout her professional career developed and led conferences, education programs, workshops, and cooking demos for such organizations as Wesleyan University, Greater Hartford YMCA and Whole Foods Market, where she served as Healthy Eating Specialist. She has been featured in the Hartford Courant, the NYTimes, and on WFSB’s Better Connecticut, and has served as a guest author for Vegansaurus.
